The Society is delighted to announce that it will again be providing English language tuition to Egyptian archaeologists and Egyptologists in 2015-16 thanks to the generosity of our colleagues at the British Council, Egypt.

We will be offering five places on courses provided by the Council over the course of three terms from September 2015, and a further five places from March 2016. Applications for entry in both September and March are invited now. In each case, three of the places will be restricted to employees of the Ministry of Antiquities but the others will be open to all.

The tuition will be provided at the British Council's premises in Agouza, Cairo. The successful candidates will be required to undergo a test to determine their current level of competence so that they can be assigned to the appropriate course. The test can be taken at either the Agouza or Heliopolis branches of the Council.

TO APPLY:

Our intention is to award the places, in open competition, to those whose work in Archaeology or Egyptology would benefit most from an improvement in their English language skills. Applicants should download and complete the form here and return it with a letter of recommendation from a tutor or supervisor by e-mail to EES.Cairo@britishcouncil.org.eg.

The closing date for applications is 2 pm (Cairo time) on Tuesday 30 June 2015. No application received after that date will be considered. Interviews, if necessary, will be held in Cairo in August; applicants will be notified of the outcome of their application no later than 31 August 2015.

Conditions:

  • Applicants must be Egyptian nationals;
  • The award will not be given more than once to the same person.

All enquiries should be addressed to EES.Cairo@britishcouncil.org.eg.
