The Egypt Exploration Society’s Lucy Gura Archive contains thousands of unique items relating to the history of UK Egyptology and excavations in Egypt and Sudan dating from 1882. A volunteer is sought to assist Carl Graves, Deputy Director and Development Manager, in digitising the Society’s collection of 35mm slides from the Survey of Memphis excavations. This is to ensure the long-term preservation of the information contained on them and to make them more accessible to researchers online via the Society’s Flickr feed and archive catalogue.

Applicants for the voluntary position should send their expression of interest for the role (no more than 500 words) to archives@ees.ac.ukby 5pm on Friday 6th October 2017.

You should demonstrate an interest in the Society’s charitable mission, as well as noting any prior archive scanning experience you have – particularly if it relates to the digitisation of slides and/or negatives. The Society would expect the project to take the successful candidate one day per week (10:30-16:30) for at least three months, based in the London office. Please indicate in your email which day you would be able to commit per week in order to perform the scanning.

The Society has limited volunteer opportunities so this is expected to be a short term placement until the project has been completed. We are unable to offer any out-of-pocket expenses to volunteers or placement students.
