The event was attended by over 150 scholars from across Egypt’s major heritage institutions

On Monday 7th March 2016 the Society organised the first EES Professional Skills for Egyptology event at the Greek Campus in Cairo. The event was attended by over 150 scholars from across Egypt, many of whom work in museums, archaeology, archives and universities and are completing research in various aspects of Egyptology.

A packed room with some of Egypt’s most promising early career Egyptologists

Workshop presentations were delivered on key topics such as archive and fieldwork research, the construction and organisation of data, and preparing research for publication and dissemination. The day was a great opportunity to discuss with colleagues across Egypt and to share experiences and case studies – particularly during networking sessions throughout the event.

As with any event – sometimes it is the post-lecture networking that adds most value!

The whole programme was put together by Essam Nagy, the Society’s Fieldwork and Engagement Manager in Cairo, and Melanie Pitkin the EES Cairo Fellow from January to March 2016. Feedback from the event reflected the need to open discussions with Egyptian colleagues and to give opportunities for a dialogue between different institutions working in Egypt, and we are delighted to have been a part of this dynamic environment!

Sharing experiences of research is one of the easiest ways to enrich your own work
