During this time you will work with the Society’s Fieldwork and Engagement Manager in Cairo, in organising

• A series of workshops offering research and professional skills for Egyptologists and archaeologists

Assistance in identifying suitable accommodation close to the British Council in Agouza will be provided.

The successful candidate will be working within a friendly, passionate and energetic team; they therefore must be a team player. They will enjoy a small but busy office environment within the British Council building at Agouza, Cairo, and a flexible approach will be required to support the Fieldwork and Engagement Manager if the necessity arises. They will, ideally, have experience of graduate research in Egyptology / archaeology, writing applications, communicating scholarly ideas to various audiences, including the academic (e.g. scientific publication) and wider public (e.g. social networks). A degree in Egyptology, archaeology or a relevant field is essential. If you consider yourself to be a conscientious, organised and enthusiastic team player, who also has the ability to work independently, then please apply.

About the Society

The Egypt Exploration Society is the leading UK organisation for archaeological fieldwork and research in Egypt and has an international membership of professional Egyptologists and interested members of the public. The Society is a registered charity and is funded principally by members’ subscriptions and donations. The Society maintains London and Cairo offices and organises events for members and the general public throughout the UK, in Egypt and elsewhere. The London Office houses an extensive library and its archive of excavation records dating back to the late nineteenth century. It is also used to host smaller educational and social events. The Cairo Office houses a small members’ library located within the British Council buildings, which is also the venue for our Cairo events.

In 2014, the Society inaugurated a programme of scholarships allowing young Egyptologists and archaeologists from Egypt to visit London for six weeks. The programme is intended to assist graduate students in their research but also to broaden their knowledge and experience of professional archaeology and Egyptology by visiting museums, universities and colleagues in London and elsewhere in the UK. The Society received over 100 applications for the six places in both 2014 and 2015 and so we are seeking to expand our provision of training in research and professional skills to a larger audience through a series of workshops and other offerings from the Society’s Cairo Office. The fellow will provide the necessary support to carry out this expansion to the programme.
