Saturday October 11th is a busy day in the Society’s events programme, as we have a London Study Day, punctuated by our Annual General Meeting and a special Guest Lecture, and followed by a party, all in the Brunei Gallery at the School of Oriental and African Studies of the University of London.
The Study Day Dynasties in decline: The Second Intermediate Period in Ancient Egypt starts at 9.30 (registration and tea/coffee) and we are delighted to welcome an outstanding line-up of speakers – Prof. Kim Ryholt, Prof. Josef Wegner, Dr Irene Forstner-Muller and Marcel Maree. The full programme can be found here and tickets can still be booked online or by phoning the London office: 020 7242 1880. These tickets include access to the evening reception, at which there will be plenty of opportunities to meet the speakers, EES staff and Trustees, and other members.
The Study Day will break at 12:30 for lunch and reconvene at 15:15. During this interlude, the Society’s Annual General Meeting will be held at 13:30, followed by a guest lecture given by Dr Mohamed Gamal of the Egyptian Museum, Cairo, on The Egyptian Museums: The Conflict in Collecting. Mohamed has been one of our inaugural EES Scholars, and we are grateful that he has been able to extend his stay in order to make this presentation.
The Agenda for the AGM was mailed to all Members in early September, together with brief biographies of nominees for election as Trustees and the summary Report and Accounts for 2013-14. The full Accounts can be downloaded here, and the nominees’ biographies are available here. Tickets are not needed for the AGM and the Annual Lecture.
We are all looking forward to seeing as many Members as possible at what we are sure will be an entertaining, informative and sociable day.
