The Egypt Exploration Society is delighted to announce that it will be offering English language tuition to five employees of the Ministry of State for Antiquities in 2013-14, and applications for the places are now invited.

The tuition will be provided by the British Council* at its premises in Agouza, Cairo over the course of six terms from September 2013. The successful candidates will be required to undergo a test to determine their current level of competence so that they can be assigned to the appropriate course. The test can be taken at either the Agouza or Heliopolis branches of the British Council.

The Society will award the places to those whose work for the Ministry would benefit most from an improvement in their English language skills.

Applicants should send the following by e-mail to: Essam Nagy, EES.Cairo@britishcouncil.org.eg:

- Their CV
- A letter of recommendation from a supervisor at the Ministry.
- A short personal statement.

Candidates should use the personal statement to explain how improving their English language skills would be of use to them in their work, and how this would be of benefit to the Ministry of Antiquities.

Applications should be submitted no later than 2.00 pm on Thursday 15 August.

In offering these places we are building on a long-established custom. The Society is committed to providing such training to colleagues in the Ministry with whom we enjoy a very close working relationship, and it is clear that the benefits extend more generally to archaeology in Egypt as well as to the individuals themselves.
