The leading British organisation for Egyptology, the Egypt Exploration Society, is looking for an enthusiastic, energetic, personable and well-organised Fieldwork & Engagement Manager to be the Society's main representative in Egypt.
This is an exciting but demanding role. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and will be comfortable dealing with colleagues in the Ministry of State for Antiquities and the other Egyptological institutes in Cairo, as well as with Society members, contractors, and other members of the public. You will be the ‘face’ of the Society in Egypt. You will be proactive, able to manage your own time and to prioritise effectively. You will provide administrative and logistical support to the Society’s research projects and to other Society staff visiting and working in Egypt. You will also promote the Society’s work and aims among the archaeological community (Egyptian and foreign) and the wider public in Egypt, and provide the first point of contact with the Society for anyone in Egypt involved or interested in its work. You will provide the London office with regular updates on activities and events in Egypt that impinge on its work there or are of wider interest to the Society’s membership and the broader UK Egyptological community. You will also maintain close contact with the Society’s London Office to ensure systems and processes are applied consistently across the organisation.
This is an excellent opportunity to join an institution with a rich history which is undergoing a series of changes to prepare it for the challenges ahead. The successful candidate will spend much of their time working independently but will enjoy regular contact with colleagues visiting Egypt and with those in London via telephone, e-mail, Skype, etc., and must therefore be a team player. You will be involved in all aspects of the Society's work in Egypt; you will enjoy a varied and challenging working day, and will have excellent knowledge of Egypt’s history and archaeology. As part of a small team, this position brings with it a high level of responsibility.
If you consider yourself to be an organised and enthusiastic team player with the ability to deal with multiple tasks then please apply directly.
